The Beinecke Angela Thirkell Collection was largely donated by the Angela Thirkell Society of North America between 2008-9 and has been added to through other donations. It contains: holograph manuscript drafts of Thirkell’s novels Private Enterprise and What Did it Mean?; correspondence between Thirkell and James Tinkham Babb, Barbara Waite Davidson, Gordon and Mary Haight, and others; third-party correspondence by Lance Thirkell, Laura Roberts Collins, C. A. Lejeune, and others; clippings and printed ephemera relating to Thirkell and her work; and computer media.
The Brotherton Collection at Leeds University Library is the repository of the literary papers of Angela Thirkell, contributed by Lance Thirkell as her literary executor on the advice of the Angela Thirkell Society (UK). This valuable collection (12 boxes) contains original manuscripts, publications, letters, contracts, and other papers which had been preserved by Angela Thirkell during her career. This catalog is taken from a typewritten catalog that accompanies the collection. An index and correspondence index are also provided. The Brotherton Collection has many literary and historical interests, but the 20th Century English author collection provides the context for this valuable resource for Angela Thirkell research and knowledge.
